An 83-year-old city council candidate in Iowa is facing prostitution charges.
Ben Dawson, a candidate for the Centerville City Council, has been charged prostitution and assault with the intent to commit sexual abuse, Des Moines TV station KCCI reported.
A person not named police by told investigators that on Oct. 22 Dawson had offered to perform sex acts in exchange for repayment of a loan. The person also said Dawson grabbed them and began kissing their neck without consent.
Dawson was released from the Appanoose County Jail after paying a $2,000 bond.
It’s unclear how the arrest will affect Dawson’s odds of winning a seat on the five-person council. The election is scheduled for Nov. 8.
